Putting people over projects looks like taking the time to sit down and hear a 9 year old girl's life story and help her process. Putting people over projects looks like arm wrestling with a 5 year old boy from the community as you build relationships at a block party. Putting people over projects looks like befriending a young boy at a jobsite and spending time talking with him, giving him piggy back rides, and being a good example for him of what a Godly young man looks like. Putting people over projects looks like taking time out before dinner to do flips with one of the girls from the church. Putting people over projects looks like praying for your neighbors and rejoicing with them over God's provision. Putting people over projects looks like reading a Bible story to the young people before dinner together. Putting people over projects looks like taking time to shoot some hoops with a new young friend. Putting people over projects looks like taking time from a busy day to thumb wrestle with a homeowner's daughter and get to know her. Putting people over projects looks like praying for your community. These are just a glimpse into some of the moments throughout the summer that I have seen "People Over Projects" put into action. When we put aside the tasks we have at hand- our own busyness and agendas- we can take the time to get to know people and share the love of Jesus with them. I'm so thankful for this reminder of what loving like Jesus looks like. "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:37-39 |
